500th Bookshop implements POS Solution made by AWEK

Anniversary of AWEK´s POS solution at book wholesaler Koch, Neff and Volckmar

In May of 2010 the 500th bookshop implemented the POS solution of AWEK. The internet-based software solution fitbis.de of the book wholesaler Koch, Neff und Volckmar (KNV) is put into operation on AWEK ´s compact POS system, AWEK being a provider of comprehensive POS solutions. Integral components of the solution fitbis.de are AWEK´s store management system euroCONTROL, and POS software euroCASH.

The book wholesaler KNV supplies bookshops with books, maps, new media, games, and gifts. Being the link between publishers and bookstores KNV covers constantly 480,000 titles from over 4,200 publishers. Within Germany the book wholesaler serves over 6,600 bookstores in 2,200 locations daily. In addition, KNV supports bookstores by recommending and distributing business software in regards to solutions for ERP, POS, as well as databases, research, and purchase orders.

In term of POS systems, KNV was celebrating an anniversary since the long-established bookshop Kayser in the city of Rheinbach implemented the 500th POS system in May. Put to use are the internet-based business software fitbis.de of KNV with AWEK´s compact POS system smartTOUCH. Especially compelling to Andreas John, owner of the bookstore Kayer since 2006, are transparency of operation, and ease of use of the POS system via touch screen technology facilitating his daily job.

Slim and Secure System

When it comes to POS systems, KNV relies on the services and solutions of AWEK for the last 15 years. The business solution fitbis.de of KNV along with AWEK´s POS software euroCASH and the store management system euroCONTROL unite typical features such as statistics on the current status of the bookstore in terms of turnover, inventory, top tracks, and top seller. Since processes are running on internet-based applications and on central hardware the bookseller is able to access the standard interface via euroCONTROL regardless of location by using a browser. This represents several benefits: the bookshop owner can access his particular POS data from anywhere and at any time. Moreover, since no important data is saved on his own POS system, data cannot get lost. Important sales and master data are safely stored at headquarters of KNV since euroCONTROL is being hosted there.

The POS system simplifies the shop owner's job tremendously. For example, closing the cash accounts is done by pressing a button, orders are triggered automatically when necessary, and stocks are managed reliably. In addition, the POS system generates key operating figures and reveals potential for improvement and provides detailed reports that help to enhance and maintain the range of items sold.

Arnd von Conrady, head of IT sales & services at KNV, says: "We are delighted that the 500th bookshop has chosen our business software and the POS solutions of AWEK. Compelling to booksellers are the simple handling of the POS system as well as a multitude of features facilitating daily operations."

"Our goal is to optimize processes. The experience of users of our POS solutions in the book trade goes to show that we are achieving this goal." says Andreas Berger, CEO of AWEK AG. "Our web-based solution improves processes in the bookstore. At the same time the bookseller gains considerably more time and flexibility in his day to day business when using euroCONTROL and euroCASH."
