The rules for issuing coupons are transferred to the POS-application in form of action files. Below are some possible options:
- buyers of baby diapers receive a coupon for baby shampoo
- buyers of liquor receive coupon for a bottle herbal liqueur
- buyers of red wine receive a coupon for the cheese counter
- buyers of a toothbrush receive a coupon for toothpaste
Similarly, the non-purchase of goods could lead to issuing coupons:

In addition, the conditions can also be combined, as well as linked to quantity.
Addressing the customer becomes especially effective when including customer cards. From the obtained data, i. e. past purchases, marketing activities can be tailored to individuals or to groups of customers:
- former buyers of a product receive a coupon
- buyers with a certain total of sales within an observed period receive a coupon
- buyers with certain demographic characteristics (i.e. age, marital status, sex) receive a coupon
